How to find a job
You know you need money, and you know you need a job. You probably want to know how to find a job. There are lots of part time jobs for teens. Applying for jobs isn’t too difficult, especially for teenagers. You need to first decide what type of job you are interested in before you search the local job listings.
What type of job would work best for you?
If you want to know how to find a job, you need to ask yourself several questions:
1.Are you more customer service oriented such as with part time retail jobs, or would you rather do more labor intensive work such as with waitress jobs?
2. What industry do you want to work in? Do you like to work with food? You could look into waitress jobs. Do you like fashion? You could look into part time retail jobs.
3. Where do you live? Do you live near a mall, supermarket, or in the middle of nowhere?
4. Do you need part-time work? With school, you will most likely only be able to handle and will probably only be allowed to work part-time. Luckily for you, part time jobs for teens aren’t usually too hard to come by. I recommend a maximum of 20 hours per week.
5. Do you need a summer job, only? If it’s just for the summer, work as much as you want, but make sure the job is temporary. Usually it’s harder to find part time jobs for teens such as part time retail jobs or waitress jobs for a short amount of time in the summer, but there are others.
Retail is a very popular area for teenagers to work in. This would include supermarkets, large pharmacies such as rite aid and walgreens, large and small department stores such as Sears and Wal-Mart, and almost anything in the mall. Chain stores are good such as H&M, Old Navy, or Abercrombie and Fitch. Or you can even try fast food joints such as McDonalds or Dunkin Donuts. I’m sure you see teenagers working in places like these all the time.
At a lot of part time retail jobs, such as Sears and some supermarkets, have online application forms that you can fill out at home. In some places, such as Dunkin Donuts, are all privately owned, and you can just stop in and ask if they are looking for help. You may notice some places with help wanted signs. These are almost surefire ways to get a job. You can even check online at sites like snagajob.com that have local job listings.
If you’re looking to work at a well-known place, check online to see how they accept applications. If they don’t have any information on their site or they don’t have a site at all, stop into the store you are interested in and ask at the register or a customer service desk.
Another great route to go, if you are a more outgoing person, is to look at waitress jobs at restaurants, or as kitchen help if you like to cook. Just a warning though as a prep cook. It is tough work. You may want to consider something else if you aren’t up for it.
Many restaurants, such as TGI Fridays, also have online applications. These types of jobs may be harder to get because you often need to be 18 or older. You could try local diners. Sometimes you can start there at a younger age. Of course, everyone knows, waiting tables can pay good tips. If you are an energetic, friendly, and detail oriented hard worker, this is for you and you could probably do pretty well with tips.
If you are good with people, you may want to consider a sales job. You could work at a furniture store or even a large department store and work on commission. If you’re a very persuasive salesperson, you can earn good money on commissions and gain experience.
If you are younger and you aren’t sure you could get hired at these places, a good idea is to ask local businesses for a job. You can try small shops such as hair salons, tailor shops, bakeries, or dry cleaners if they could use your help. They may need a little extra help with cleaning or preparation. It never hurts to ask.
Once you find the job of your teenage dreams, apply, wait, and hope for an interview. Before you know it, you could be sweeping floors, folding clothes, and making big bucks! Or at least, some extra cash to get started with.
If you really want to know how to find a job, more specifically a part time job for teens, just follow these steps, check your local job listings, and work hard.
