Interview Part I
Show Them What They Weren’t Expecting
I don’t think you will ever meet someone who says they love going for interviews. When I think of the word interview I think of a pounding heart, sweaty palms, and just all over nervousness. An interview is a formal meeting in which one or more persons question, consult, or evaluate another person. To me, that means someone is going to judge me.
Nobody likes being judged. We all want to be judged well, so we try to be the best person that we can be. This is exactly what happens at an interview. A business decides that they need help in some sort of way with the continuation of running their business. To fill this need, they conduct interviews.
At these interviews, they ask the applicant all sorts of questions and drill them to see if they are right for the job. At the same time, the applicant is trying their best to answer these questions in such a way to prove to the employer that they are right for this job.
You’re trying to make a good impression while not knowing what to expect, hence the clammy hands.
Interviews can be painful experiences, but are completely necessary for getting a job. It’s not often that someone will call you up asking you to work for them.
The key to acing your interview is to treat every part and every interview with all professional seriousness. Just because you are interviewing to work as a supermarket shelf stocker, doesn’t mean you don’t need to still take it seriously. You may feel like the job is in the bag because every one of your friends got the job. You still need to try your best because you never really know how hard they tried in the interview.
Look at each and every interview you have as practice for the interview for the job of your dreams. If you’re really worried and get near anxiety attacks when interviewing, you may even want to interview for jobs you don’t plan on taking, just for the practice. Before that, you can even try doing mock interview with a parent or someone you feel comfortable around.
Interviews will go much more smoothly if you are comfortable and confident. At the same time, don’t be so confident that you look arrogant or so comfortable that you look uninterested.
Follow the following key points at every interview and, who knows, maybe you’ll enjoy them?
