Relieve Some Burden with Scholarships
As you probably already know, scholarships are a great way to help pay for college. It seems as though people are giving away money all over the place. Why not get some of it?
Scholarships are given away for almost everything. There are scholarships for those in financial need, writing essays, performance art and music, community service, and even drawings.
Don’t wait until you’re a senior in high school to start looking for scholarships. Some scholarships are even available to those in middle school.
It’s always important to work hard in school so that you get good grades and scholarships. Of course that’s not the only reason to work hard in school, but that’s not the only way to get scholarships.
Another important part of getting scholarships is to get involved in community activities. Volunteer at the soup kitchen or nursing home. These are great things to get involved in anyway, but they will also help give you references for scholarships.
If you’re not a genius in school, but you’re good at certain things, try for scholarships having to do with your talent. For example, if you like to write, enter a lot of creative writing contests and scholarships. If you love science, invent something and apply for a scholarship for inventors. If you love art, submit your portfolio.
Always check with your guidance counselor for scholarships.

I regret losing a lot of opportunities while in high school. I applied to only one scholarship even though I was eligible for many more. I got the only scholarship I applied for which was a little upsetting. I can only imagine how much more money I would have gotten if I had tried just a little while.
If I could have done high school all over again, I would have gotten more involved in things and tried better in school. It’s hard to get over that I passed up all that free money. Don’t make my mistake!
