Give and you shall receive
“Give, and it shall be given to you. For whatever measure you deal out to others, it will be dealt to you in return.” Luke 6:38
The Bible says, and it is stated in many other religions as well, that when you give you receive. It is practically a law of nature.
This can mean giving through actions, money, or other things, but it’s most associated with money. I do urge you to volunteer your time whenever you can, but I also urge you to give your money to others.
When you give to others, you will get back. This doesn’t mean if you give your church $10, $15 will miraculously land in your savings account. It’s a principle, not magic.
It may be a very long time before you ever see rewards from your giving. You might start sponsoring a child in another country for $30 a month and see no difference for 5 years, but then get a huge raise.
Wait a minute, if it took that long to get the raise, you probably would have gotten the raise anyway, right?
Maybe. That shouldn’t be what’s important. Yes, give and you shall receive, but that should not be your purpose for giving. Just think of it as a nice added bonus.
You should be giving to others less fortunate than you in order to help and be compassionate. Evaluate your motives and make sure they are not for greed.
You should treat giving just as saving. If you put 10% aside for savings, put 10% aside for giving. If you go to church, you should tithe 10%. Everything after that is an offering.
Who should you give to? That’s a good question and it’s entirely up to you.
I’m sure you’ve had fundraisers for school. This might be a good idea to help out friends raising money for school functions if you feel it’s worthy and you want to. For instance, you might want to donate to your friend’s art honor society to go towards scholarships, but might pass on donating to another friend’s trip to
There are also many charities out there, but be careful and make sure they are legitimate. A good site to check out is charity navigator. It helps you find a charity you can trust and gives lots of tips and articles.
Start giving now and it will not go unnoticed.
