Starting a Small Business Part III: Jump Right in!

If you feel ready and confident with your service or product, just jump right in! Advertise wherever you can, put up fliers and spread word of mouth. If you sell or service by order, such as catering or snow shoveling, do the best job you can to earn a good reputation and tell your customers to tell all their friends about your new business.

Keep at it! If you’re not turning much of a profit, don’t give up. Persistence is hard work and it will pay off if done right.

Business is good, I can’t keep up!

If you have more lawns to mow than you can handle, hire new people. I’m sure your friends would love to make a few extra bucks. Pay them, but, of course, keep a percentage for yourself. It is your business, but be fair.

As long as you are doing well, keep expanding and developing what you can. Try new

things, new recipes, new ideas, and you could earn more.

When to quit

If you’ve been working so hard at your business that you collapse in bed at night, but you’re not making much of a profit, you need to examine the problem. If you’re working hard, then you must have customers and you may need to examine your prices.

If business is slow or nonexistent, you may have chosen the wrong business. Ask yourself, is it in demand? Is the market already flooded? If it’s been months and you have yet to see a profit, throw in the towel. If you haven’t made anything because you’re lazy and don’t put much work into it. Throw in the towel and get another job!

Get on your way

Start your business and see if you’re the entrepreneur that you think you are!
